DigiCert is a leading commercial CA offering DV, OV, and EV SSL certificates. Learn what DigiCert provides, its products, and how to identify DigiCert certificates.
DigiCert is one of the largest commercial Certificate Authorities, headquartered in Lehi, Utah. After acquiring Symantec's PKI business in 2017, DigiCert became the dominant CA for enterprise and EV certificates. DigiCert also issues certificates under the GeoTrust and Thawte brands, which it acquired from Symantec.
DigiCert Certificate Products
- Secure Site SSL: OV certificates for standard HTTPS use
- Secure Site Pro SSL: OV certificates with additional features including vulnerability assessment
- Secure Site EV: Extended validation for enterprise and regulated industries
- DigiCert Wildcard: OV wildcard certificates
- Multi-Domain SSL: SAN certificates covering multiple domains

Identifying a DigiCert Certificate
DigiCert certificates show O: DigiCert Inc in the Issuer field. The Authority Info Access extension points to DigiCert's OCSP responder at http://ocsp.digicert.com. CRL distribution points typically use crl3.digicert.com or crl4.digicert.com. Certificates issued under the GeoTrust or Thawte brand will show those names as the issuer organization.
Certificate Lifetimes
Following CA/B Forum changes, DigiCert (like all public CAs) is limited to issuing public TLS certificates with a maximum validity of 398 days. DigiCert offers shorter durations and automated renewal tools via its CertCentral management platform.
